Continuing its signature Egyptian inspired architecture, the mall’s thematic shopping precincts of Shopping Central, Oasis Boulevard, Asian Avenue and Marrakesh portrayed four different look and feel within a single mall, distinguishing its entry from the rest. FIABCI is French acronym for “Federation Internationale des Administrateurs de Bien-Conselis Immobiliers”, which means “The International Real Estate Federation”. It is 61 years in existence and had over 60 chapters operating in various countries.

Sunway Pyramid trumped all entries to become the Best Retail Development 2010 for the second time as a tribute to its RM550 million transformation into a 4-million sq ft shopping kingdom. Whilst the expansion had retained its iconic Egyptian-inspired design, the mall now houses 800 specialty outlets in five distinctive shopping precincts : Fashion Central, Oasis Boulevard, Asian Avenue, Marrakesh and Kidz Zone.

The Mall was also selected for integrating singularly outstanding green features such as the Carpark Guiding System which eases traffic congestion and reduces carbon monoxide emissions; as well as waterless urinals.

Upon receiving the award for the second time, Managing Director - Property Investment, Sunway City Bhd, Mr. Ngeow Voon Yean dedicated this award to his team, customers and other stakeholders of Sunway Pyramid.

It was double honours for Sunway City as Sunway City Ipoh also clinched the Master Plan Category making it a night to remember. Mr Ho Hoon Sang, Managing Director - Property Development, Malaysia received the award for Sunway City Ipoh. Sunway City Ipoh emerged as winner for its successful and sustainable concept plan of building a township and housing estate development that catered to the healthy lifestyle of the community.

This category was judged based on financial considerations, partnerships with authorities, implementation, environmental impact and benefits to the community.

The Malaysian Retail-Chains of Association (MRCA) held a night of awards recently to celebrate and recognise the outstanding retail chains businesses who have contributed to the growth of the retail industry.

Out of the 200 active retail chains stores and operators, over 50 of them were awarded during the ‘Night of Heroes’ gala dinner.

Presented by Dato’ Sri Idris Jala, CEO of Performance Management and Delivery Unit (PEMANDU), the MRCA Achiever Award was given to approximately 40 retailers whereas the remaining awards were awarded to retailers with the strongest global growth, strongest national growth, best visual, most excellent customer service and most supportive members.

One of the highest accolades went to Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall. The mall was named the Most Supportive Shopping Mall for the second time since 2008, when the title was first created.

The 2010 Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival (MMSC 2010) may be over, but the Shopping Centre Awards was announced recently at the Priceless Gems Gala Dinner held by the Malaysian Association for Shopping Complex and Highrise Management (PPK).

Presented by Tourism Minister Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, Sunway Pyramid won both awards categorised under the MMSC 2010 Shopping Centre Awards Suburban Category.

The mall’s FABULOUSALE theme during the Mega Sale Carnival in July won ‘Best Thematic Decoration’ and ‘Best Promotions & Events’ for the second time. It had previously won the same awards at the Malaysia Year End Sale 2009.

After Sunway Pyramid’s expansion in 2007, the mall now has over 800 shops to fulfil even a shopaholic’s greatest dream – making the mall literally the place for you to shop till you drop.

The shopping mall is known for its various precincts offering different styles for different fashion needs. This is the first time the Ministry of Tourism announced its MMSC Shopping Centre Awards at the PPK Malaysia Gala Dinner, an event graced by a majority of the shopping malls and highrise buildings industry.

“Initiatives taken by the Tourism Ministry in encouraging wider participating among retailers and the shopping industry through the various awards are also laudable as they serve to create a healthy competition to offer the best value proposition to tourists and local alike. Thus, we are honoured to have the Minister herself attending our Gala Dinner this year and for her to announce the results of the awards live made our dinner a more meaningful affair,” said HC Chan, President of PPK Malaysia.

HC Chan, who is also the CEO of Sunway Pyramid, added that the retail sector is one of the top five key sectors under the New Economic Model and all shopping malls should work hand in hand with the Ministry of Tourism to drive tourist receipts in the retail industry.

Sunway Pyramid was accorded the Association of Professional Early Childhood Providers Malaysia (APECP) Annual Excellent Child Contributor Awards 2009 / 2010 under the Child-Friendly Entertainment Mall category.

Presented by Raja Puan Muda Perlis (Patron of APECP), Sunway Pyramid was the only mall, amongst other recipients, to be recognised for its contributions towards improving quality and providing excellent services in early childhood education, care and development in Malaysia.

Sunway Pyramid clinched the Silver Award for Development and Design category of the inaugural ICSC Asia Shopping Centre Awards 2008 at the prestigious award presentation ceremony held in Macao recently. The mall was one of the only two Malaysian malls to secure the coveted award that saw entries from all over Asia.

Organsied by International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) for the very first time for Asian shopping malls, the award was conceived to honour the shopping centre industry’s most cutting-edge properties, innovative solutions and creative responses to market trends. It also served to acknowledge the trendsetters in the design, development and operations of shopping centres.

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the global trade association of the shopping centre industry. As the global industry trade association, ICSC links with more than 25 national and regional shopping centre councils throughout the world.
